How to backup firmware

Hi,
I would like to backup my original firmware from the MiniPOV4*
Can someone tell me if it is possible to get the original pre-loaded firmware that comes from Adafruit off of my MiniPOV and save it somewhere as a backup. I'm guessing I won't be able to get readable code but rather a binary file of some sort but that is fine.

I am using windows 8.1 with Arduino IDE 1.6.5 but I also have access to a Mac.

*In reality, I already screwed up my MiniPOV4 but am hoping I can backup the firmware from a friend's and then use that to restore my current MiniPOV.
