3.5" PiTFT OctoPrint Rig - Installation Issue

Post by sxrg »

I'm having an issue getting the '3.5" PiTFT OctoPrint Rig' working. Either the steps are not straight forward or I'm just lost. This is what I have done thus far.
I installed the 'Jessie-based PiTFT 3.5" Image'. I have a Pi3. Once I load that on the SD card, it boots up fine, and boots into the gui and I get it connected to the wireless (wlan0).
-The part on which I'm confused is the second step(s). It talks about the Raspian image, but I have Jessie. If I load the Raspian image it will delete the Jessie image.
-The other thing I tried was I went to the octopi web page and tried to install "Installing from source", Even though the Jessie image has python 2.7.x already I tried the steps starting with step #2. Step 2.1 works fine when I issue the command; Step 3 is where the command does not work.

( note: I tried via ssh and directly to Pi)
To summarize.
I have the Jessie image and I was trying to add the Octopi program to it. Is this incorrect? Am I totally off base? or Should I use a different image? The steps are not clear to me. Would it be possible to list a step by step instruction or some kind? I'm sure other folks may have figured it out.

Thanks (in advance)

Hey there,

Don't worry about the wording, "Raspbian" - OctoPrint will run completely fine on the Jessie-based 3.5" image. Once you're Pi is booted and loaded in the GUI, log onto your WiFi network (or use ethernet). Once you get an IP from the Pi, I recommend using your desktop computer to SSH into the Pi and install the dependencies following the "Basic Setup" wiki guide.

To clarify things, I've put together a step-by-step video walkthrough installing OctoPrint from start to finish. I'm in the progress of exporting / uploading it to the Adafruit Youtube channel - will share link when its up.

Best of luck!

I'd also like to say thanks for the video. I'm pretty much there but I'm struggling with the Webcam component and your video didn't cover that. I'm following the github instructions and the second line of the first Webcam block reads:

sudo apt-get install subversion libjpeg8-dev imagemagick libav-tools cmake

After confirming that I want to continue I see this block of error messages related to imagemagick:

Do you want to continue? [Y/n] Y

Hi,

Firstly, I would like to thank you for your videos for Octopi set up.

In the "How to Set Up Raspberry Pi Camera with @OctoPrint3D : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ecVLfa3pas" video, you didn't show how can we start webcam automatically every time?

I don't understand what I do after the line: (https://github.com/foosel/OctoPrint/wik ... ian#webcam)

"If you want to be able to start and stop mjpeg-streamer from within OctoPrint, put the following in /home/pi/scripts/webcam:"....

Please help.

Thanks.

I'm also stuck at this point. Have webcam working but cannot sort the autostart scripts for it. Would be so good to have another video to follow!!

This is the first and only maker project I've ever given up on. After many hours, 2 Raspberry pi boards (A pi 3 just wouldn't work) and 2 webcams, I ended up with a device that worked briefly and then consistently crashed. Bummer.
