Visibility during the day

Post by sovi3t »

This thing looks awesome... I'd like to install one on my BMX bike, but I do not ride much at all during the night.

How visible are the images during the day? Does the color make much of a difference?

I also saw that BMX would use 22 LEDs. Are there two kits, one with 30 and the other with 22?

the BMX is just shorter so there are fewer LEDs, same kit otherwise.
during the day its not very visible...the leds arent as bright as the sun!

What if I used an image with a lot of light but not too much detail... for example the biohazard one? Then would it be visible at all during the day? Enough to make out the shape/design and everything?

Hm.. perhaps I'll just have to bike at night more... but I really want to try this thing out.

edit: is there a video archive somewhere?

dont have a video camera. i dont know, it would work OK but not as well as at night. certainly not as 'dazzling' a basic image would def. work better than a complex one.

What color would you recommend then? It seems my choice is between Yellow and Red right now for my BMX bike. Which one would be brighter during the day?

Can't wait to order and install. I'll be sure to post pics. :)

edit: If I added a 3rd battery for my red or yellow lights, would it make them brighter at all, or would I be giving the LEDs too much power?

red is brighter. you can only have two batteries for BMX so you cant have a third plus it would break the leds

Alternativley, upgrade the LEDs to ones with a higher mcd.
Maybe Ladyada can quote the mcd of those that are supplied with the kit.

Current could be increased to the LEDs by changin resistor pack value but it will have an effect on battery life.
