I'd like to socket all the chips on the x0xb0x... has anyone done this? I imagine most of you have. Can you tell me how many and what types I'll need?
Thanks in advance
Steve
Got the email yesterday that my x0xb0x has shipped... my native name is now "dances with glee"

For the two SIP ICs, you'll need SIP sockets. I used these nifty snappable SIP sockets from AllElectronics. You can also use them for the rare transistors since the holes are spaced the same.
Personally, I just socketed the SIP ICs and Q8, Q9, and Q10 in case I decide to get a BA662 and some higher gain transistors. I don't think it's worth socketing the DIP ICs but it's up to you.
By the way, this is off topic, but AllElectronics is a cool little store. I ordered from them online awhile ago but now that I'm living in Los Angeles I decided to check out their actual store about half an hour away. They have all sorts of crazy pieces of electronics and lots of pretty cheap tools.

i socketed all the chips, just count them up by looking at the board to get the numbers. i alwasy socket all chips on all projects because its alot easier to pull a chip form a socket if it needs to replaced at all rather than desoldering all those pins...especially if your trouble shooting and not even sure if the IC is the problem.
As for the sips i just used sidecutters and cut a dip socket in half...works great if you dont have sip sockets handy

i did exactly the same plus the Q1-Q4 trannies. you'll have to remove them when you put the BA662 in.cheesy wrote:For the two SIP ICs, you'll need SIP sockets.
