Actual cost thread (international duty & tariff)

Post by adafruit »

When you receive your kit, please add a note here mentioning what country it was shipped to and how much duty, tariff, VAT, etc. you had to pay. This will give me and others an idea of the 'actual cost'

thanks,
the management

I had to pay 58€ VAT. Maybe you should mark the packets as a "Gift" in future.

What the...?
I paid 127 SEK VAT and 63 SEK in post office charges. Total 190 SEK.
My box says "educational electronic kit" or something, obviously I then got away with just 6% VAT instead of 25%. Odd. I'm not complaining!

Got it on june 6. Paid around 465$(cad) for the kit, paid around 62$(cad) for the taxes + customs.

I can't wait to have completed the kit!

Thanks for packing it so well, the box had a corner that was well squished. Fortunately only the box suffered, everything inside seems intact.

UK customs charged me £32.61, less painful than I wuz expecting. So total amount was £222.56 plus about 8-10 hours to build (say £90 in man hours) equals £312.56 = not bad for a midi TB-303

as it came from "adafruit industries" the customes seemed to be very interested
and charged me 16% import sales tax on "computer accessories" = 45,58 EUR

i´ll try to get some explanations from them on monday, maybe there is a little
chance to reduce those taxes....

...beside that i am happy !

thanx limor & the team behind this exiting project !!!

Norwegian customs figured the package contained "computer parts" and slapped on another $110US, roughly.

It's not much compared to what i've spent on equipment to make sure this thing gets built perfectly 8)

#181 - Australia.

No customs, or taxes. turned up at my doorstep today unannounced.

If this is always the case, In future I suggest sending registered post to australia. parcel post can be pretty bad here if they're not forced to keep track of it, and registered post is only a few $$ more. much safer.
