Faceplate "MODS"

Post by evilxsystems »

I need to bore out the holes on my faceplate about an extra millimeter or so for the LEDS....I can't get the damn things to all line up perfectly and so the faceplate doesn't lower down all the way, so the buttons are usable, but basically flush with the top of the face plate, which is lame. Is a drill press the best thing to use for doing this? or a dremel or flame thrower or what?

id suggest bending the leds around before drilling out the plate
if you have to drill out the plate use a hand reamer
but if you dont have one of those a drill press would be best
and if you dont have one of those a regular hand drill would work

for the cleanest holes set the drill to very high speed and
feed the bit in very slowly

Mmm. are you sure it is the LEDs, and not the Bank Select or the Mode Select switches causing you problems?

actually, i can not get the LEDs to NOT line up..... without bending them or doing a really bad soldering job.

well I got it to line up...I just wasn't pushing down hard enough...I was worried I was going to break the board...anyway the holes should be a little bit bigger though, since the standoffs prevent you from bending the leads at all.

I had lots of flashing, thin bits of extra metal, around the edges of the holes. I took a flat screwdriver and scraped all the flashing off and it went together much easier.
