PowerBoost 500 Shield Problem

Post by TimmyDong »

Hi, I have a PowerBoost 500 Battery Shield and once the battery is plugged into the battery shield, the LEDs on the battery shield light up for a second and then become really dark.

I've tried a battery that works fine on another battery shield for troubleshooting and the same problem happened. Does anyone had a similar problem before?

It sounds like you have multiple shields and multiple batteries. Which batteries are you using? Can you post a photo of the problematic shield showing how you have it connected.

Yes I ordered three Lithium Ion Batteries - 3.7v 2000mAh and three battery shields. The other two battery shields work properly with the battery. Here is the picture of that problematic shield.

Is the switch on in that photo? It looks off. Curious what the LEDs are doing if you attach a charged battery and turn switch on.

Additionally, what the CHG and DONE LEDs do when you plug in a USB cable.

Without the USB cable connected, the 5V and Low LED only lights up when I plugged in the battery with the switch at the on position. Then 5V and Low LED becomes really dark. Nothing shows on the LED when I plug in the battery with the switch off.

Also, when I connect the USB cable, only the CHG LED lights up.

That all sounds as expected, except for the getting "really dark" part. Can you post a photo of that state showing the really dark LEDs. Sounds like they aren't off, just dim.

Sorry I should say it more accurately. The LED lights up really shortly once I connected the battery. Then it becomes dim and goes completely off.

Just to be sure - the batteries you are testing with are charged up?

Yes, I've fully charged the battery on another shield and put it back to the problematic one, still doesn't work.

Let's replace it. Send an email to [email protected] with a link to this thread and your order number and they can send you a new PowerBoost 500 Shield.
