Hello, my question involves how to direct-wire a MintyBoost to an old-school Adafruit GPS Shield V1.1, as outlined in the tutorial here: http://ladyada.net/make/gpsshield/power.html with a close-up here: http://ladyada.net/images/gpsshield/mintyboosthack.jpg
I can't quite see where the wires are coming from on the MintyBoost, but presume they're soldered to pins 1 (+5V) and 4 (GND) of the USB as denoted in the schematic here: http://learn.adafruit.com/assets/5784
It's clear in the photo that those wires get soldered to their respective + and - of the FTDI on the GPS shield. I can handle that part.
Also, are the holes noted in the following image just for locating/fastening the USB jack? Since I'm not mounting the jack (direct-wiring the MintyBoost to the GPS shield) I'm hoping I can use these two holes to "mount" the MintyBoost's PCB to a backing with a couple of tiny bolts. The device I'm building will be going on quite a few expeditions, so I'm building it tough. :)
Thanks in advance,
Steve

That is correct.I can't quite see where the wires are coming from on the MintyBoost, but presume they're soldered to pins 1 (+5V) and 4 (GND) of the USB as denoted in the schematic here:
That is fine. These are designed for the mounting tabs on the USB connector shell and have no electrical connections to them.I'm hoping I can use these two holes to "mount" the MintyBoost's PCB to a backing with a couple of tiny bolts.
