Mintyboost problem. Please help!

Post by mjansson »

Hi,
this is my second mintyboost project and I am not having as much luck this time as I did last year. My multimeter gives me very strange readings which makes it a little more complicated this time as well. I do get a reading which is very close to the reading I get from my Adafruit USB port power power (wall based) USB charger ((1.37 vs 1.34).
These are a couple of pictures:

I was not able to add these pictures to this message unfortunately.

Any and all help would be appreciated.
cheers
Mikael

You have mounted the USB socket on the bottom of the board. This means all the connections are reversed. You will have to move it to the top of the board.

Hi,
thank you for being so gentle when pointing out my mistake. I am still shaking my head in embarrassment.

I managed to desolder the USB socket and hope that I will never have to do that again. The large feet for the socket (those on the side) came out with, what looks to me as, tightly wound copper springs. I am not sure what the purpose of those springs are. Is it ok to stick them back in the board (but from the other side this time)?.

Cheers
Mikael

I suspect that the springs you refer to are the through-hole plating for the mounting holes. These do help with soldering, but are not electrically necessary for the operation of the MintyBoost.
