No DC jack

by westbrookp1 on Tue Oct 27, 2009 11:42 pm

the project says that we can use the usb as the charger and not use the jack. It says: If you leave out the DC jack, solder the RING pad to the RING-SWITCH pad as the jack connects them internally by default!..... what exactly does this mean and how would i go about doing this?

Look on the schematic for the battery board.
See in the top left, the DC power jack?

Notice how the GND is bridged to the trace that goes to the USB jack?

When the power connector is not in the jack -- then the USB ground goes tothe circuit ground.
When you plug in the dc power it breaks that connection and connects the DC power ground to circuit ground.

If you don't install the DC Power Jack you need to make that connection on the circuit board by bridging the USB ground to the circuit ground.

make sense?
