Re: Wave Bubble 2010
Another idea just to throw out there, if the microcontoller is to be upgraded i think it would be a great idea to replace the antenna board with an LCD / Switch board. Even just adding some sort of header that would allow for future add-ons would be quite beneficial in the long run.

Re: Wave Bubble 2010
Wouldn't it be possible to significantly improve upon the original WB by adding an amplifier/repeater in series with the unit? I know these are often big, expensive etc., but just curious.

Re: Wave Bubble 2010
I've started to put together a wiki page for this version of the project. Feel free to make changes and additions.

Re: Wave Bubble 2010
Ordered rest of the missing parts from Digikey for my Wave Bubble design.
When they arrive I will do a final PCB design check prior to manufacturing.
Then we will see if it works or not...

Re: Wave Bubble 2010
One thing I'm adding to my design is a MCP73843-410 Li-Poly charger and a 3.7V 6Ah li-poly battery.
More information on:
MCP : http://www.microchip.com/wwwproducts/De ... e=en010554
Battery: http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/produc ... ts_id=8484
Vin in my case will be a USB Universal Charger Solution wall adaptor. That means D+ & D- are shorted together (< 200Ohms) and Vusb is 5V at upto 1800mA.

Re: Wave Bubble 2010
Any further news?
Looking at Digikey, it appears a number of parts from the original design have gone out of production. The LiPo charger chip in particular doesn't appear to have a pin-compatible replacement.

Re: Wave Bubble 2010
Made some progress on my Wave Bubble 2010.
Schematic and layout are all done. All components delivered. Waiting for a new set of main PCB's due to problems during production.
See first post of thread.

Re: Wave Bubble 2010
Did you by chance order black pcb? They look great compared to the greens and standard color..
When yours is finally up and running , of course, planning to get a bulk order through?

Re: Wave Bubble 2010
The manufacuterer which I use is more focused on quality with low costs rather than fancy features, so there will be no black PCBs.
But I will make the layout data available for download, so you can have your own PCB, even in black.
A bulk order is possible, but like you said, not before anything is successful up and running.

Re: Wave Bubble 2010
When I get confirmation that this new version works correctly, I'm willing to do a bulk order of black PCBs. Of course, I want there to be some sort of proof of interest before I go and order 40 sets. I don't want to have 35 sets sitting on my desk for 6 months.

Re: Wave Bubble 2010
Got my new main PCBs today. This time they are correct.
So I can continue with my Wave Bubble.
Since I have access to resonable equipment I will perform some measurments regarding frequency range, output power etc.
Results will be posted here.

Started with populating the main PCB and finished up the power supply section.
ON/OFF switching with tactile switch via FET works nice...as long as no AVR is connected :-/
With AVR the circuit gets partly powered through the AVR and will drain the battery.
Circuit and PCB design is already changed for further versions, but my actual hardware needs a quick and dirty fix.
All output voltages are present and correct. We ave 3.3V, 5V, 12V and 22V down to a battery voltage of 2V!ON/OFF switching with tactile switch via FET works nice...as long as no AVR is connected :-/

Re: Wave Bubble 2010
Apart from the design flaw with the power switch all other tests are promising. I already wrote a test firmware to perform different hardware tests step by step.
The RF stage is not assembled up to now, but tuning of VCOs works in full voltage span, also the overlay from the sawtooth generator works with 120Hz and 20KHz. Power switching for both VCOs and gain stages works too.

Re: Wave Bubble 2010
Here are some measurement results of my actual hardware.
Measurements were performed without gain stage, so all output levels are from VCOs.
