The code can be modified to change the internal clock speed without requiring any particular fuse setting. This would get rid of the extra step of setting fuses.

...I have such question :
..in a project minipov was talked : "...Note: if you are trying this out with a new microcontroller (i.e. not from a kit) you'll need to burn the fuses first, otherwise it won't work right and might not be programmable. Run make burn-fuse before you type in make program-minipov, while the minipov is powered and connected to the serial port. You might have to do it a couple of times if its failing. ..."
In the project of Spok POV is it needed to conduct such action ?

Only if you bought your own microcontroller from a source other than LadyAda.

...stop.
if microcontroller from a source other than LadyAda, what actions do need to be executed before programming?
