FT232H SPI Flash Memory (SST25VF080B) Error

by scandium on Tue Jul 27, 2021 4:50 am

I'm trying to use the newer version of the Adafruit FT232H breakout (USB C, 3.3V out and Stemma QT connector) to program an SPI flash memory chip. The specific chip I have is the SST25VF080 (1 MB). I've checked the datasheet and it should support standard SPI and has the regular pinout.

I am on Windows 10 and as far as I can tell the FTDI drivers are all set up correctly with Zadig (changed to libusbK, although in the tutorial it also mentions libusb-win32 which is confusing) and pyusb etc. as per the tutorial. The device seems to be able to correctly as it can correctly read the chip ID, however no data gets written to the chip and I receive this error:

I am not using an additional 3.3V regulator as the new board as one build in, although I did also test with an external one which made no difference. I also tried adding pull up resistors to some or all of the SPI lines (MOSI, MISO, SCK, CS). I've tested reading data from the chip which seems to work and gives a completely blank file (filled with FF).

Any help at all would be massively appreciated, particularly if you have experience writing to SPI flash with the FT232H.

Thanks!

Try running with a -b argument to bulk erase the flash also. It seems like it's writing OK, just not verifying.
