FONA808 (#2542) Unreadable/Undeletable SMS

by silverstar on Fri Jul 16, 2021 12:14 pm

I have a Mega using a Adafruit #2542 FONA SMS/GPS .
I use the FONAtest sketch supplied by Adafruit, modified only to support Serial I/O on a Mega.

The FONA tells me that I have three messages. I can not read them or delete them.

Can someone help me fix this?

As a sanity check, have you tried AT+CMGDA? That's the 'delete all SMS' command.

My apologies for such a late replay. My project is physically located about an hours drive away.
I have not tried the delete all because the test sketch did not include a command to do that. I looked at the test sketch to see if they executed any AT commands and it did not . I assume that one of the library functions does that. I will attempt to look at the library.

I looked at the library and I could find where a single SMS was deleted but no bulk delete.

Just send the SIM808 the string ‘AT+CMGDA’. you can do it with a separate sketch, or add it as a one-time modification to your setup() function. If it works, you can take it out again, or wrap it as a function so you can execute it remotely.

Thank you for your suggestion, alas I am on a two month assignment and will not be able to get back to this project until October.
