PyBadge - best way to power from external 5V?!

Post by slight »

Hello Adafruit-Support-Team,

i want to power my PyBadge from my external 5V (stepdown converter)
what is the best way to to this?
i checked the guide:
https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-pyb ... -3028467-9
but it does only says how to power from a Battery..
in the schematics i can see that there is a *automatic* switching between VBUS and VBAT - and that VBAT lands at the same V+ input to the 3.3V LDO.
https://cdn-learn.adafruit.com/assets/a ... 1556577492

so is it safe to use the VBAT input as *external +5V input* ?!
i think it is - please advice!

sunny greetings

No, because of the battery charger. Supplying 5v through the FeatherWing connector's USB pin is possible but risky because if you accidentally leave it connected while connecting the USB bad things could happen since there's no protection against it. The best way is to provide 5v through the USB connector.
