Speaker Bonnet: No Volume Control

by codypeterson on Fri Sep 01, 2017 4:40 pm

I recently bought both speakers & a bonnet which are used in this guide:
https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-spe ... spberry-pi

The set up went great and everything works really well, except that both alsamixer & PIXEL don't detect any volume control out of the unit. I've read a couple of posts that stated that this "magically" started to work after a few days, but I have had no such luck. I am running Raspbian 4.9.41-v7+. From what I understand, this is the Stretch version. The tutorial was written for Jessie. Is the guide compatible with any changes that might be in Stretch? That's about the only thing I can think of.

Thanks.

There might be differences in the way Stretch handles audio.. it's only been out for about a week, and we're only just starting to hear about the problems.

You can download older Raspbian OS images here:

http://downloads.raspberrypi.org/raspbian/images/

and for the short term that's probably the easiest way to go.

it looks like alsamixer softvol broke in the latest raspbian. this happens pretty much every time raspbian gets released, i'll take a look
