Adafruit Perma-Proto Board QUESTION

Post by supernoob »

Hi. I'm about to solder my project to these Adafruit Perma-Proto boards. It looks like the conductive gold goes all the way through and shows as a ring on the top of the board. Is this susceptible to shorting when the components lay flat on the surface? For example if my resistor leg has to span over a few rows and is laying flat it may touch some of these rings. Are there techniques to avoid this? U have to solder the components slightly raised? Anyone ever run into this problem?

Thanks!

That's the general idea. And the diameter of the resistor itself actually makes is somewhat hard to have the wires that close to the board. But any copper you see on the perma-proto is conductive, so if it's not a place you want a part to contact, then you need to watch out for that.

Kapton/polyimide tape is useful for situations where a conductor has to cross over other things it could short to:

It's like any other plastic tape, but doesn't melt at soldering temperatures.
