Pin layout for USB DIY Product 1388

Post by eneely »

Hi,

I am looking for the pin diagram on product number 1388. I can find USB pinout diagrams on other sites, but I'm not sure which one is pin one. I love Adafruit (and have bought a lot of things from you) and my only complaint is you really aren't set up for beginners just trying to get started. It would be great if it eased those of us who are beginners in, so that we can become more knowledgable along the way.

Having this DIY product without a diagram for the pins is a barrier for a beginner. I looked through the forum and there are only links to sites that don't exist any longer or notes that say Adafruit has no tech specs on the item. The product video says, "just solder them" without even mentioning which pin is PIN 1.

I mean this to be constructive criticism -- I want more non-specialists to be able to play and explore. There's just a little too much assumed. Now I'll try and guess which one is PIN 1 and see if I'm right (unless you can tell me!)

Thanks,
Liz

The diagrams at Wikipedia are usually easiest to read:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB#/media/File:USB.svg

The socket's connections are mirrored from the plug (shown in the image), so looking into the socket and reading left to right, the connections would be 5v, D-, D+, GND.
