Stereo 20W Class D Audio Amplifier - MAX9744

Post by charles_babbage »

I have had 100's of hours of music playing audio from this amplifier...
until the other day.

I plugged in the same 12V barrel jack I've been using for years,
weird noises came from the speaker,
and the board started to warm at an alarmingly increasing rate.
I immediately unplugged it... luckily I have two of these!

I removed all connections and plugged them into the other amp,
and it worked as expected.
the problem board is the one on the right

Are you running it in analog mode or i2c mode? What speakers are you driving with it?

I have only used these boards in analog mode with the supplied potentiometer.

I am driving a couple of 20W 4 Ohm Full Range Speaker - XS-GTF1027 PRODUCT ID: 1732.

There shouldn't be any compatibility issues there.

Did you notice which component or components on the board were getting hot?

Nothing is connected to the board except the 12V barrel jack
and the heat builds and races away from the center of the pcb.

Sounds like something internal to the amplifier chip has failed. When did you purchase the board?

Our return replace warranty policy is 30 days from purchase. So that would be a bit past that.
