ST Link v2 (product 2548) inconsistent pinout!

by burken on Mon Aug 20, 2018 7:01 am

Hi, this is a headsup - Adafruit sells the 2548 ST-Link STM8/STM32 USB programmer with the same product ID and same manufacturing batch but with different pinouts of the 10 pin connector.

We had to learn this the hard way so in case anyone else falls into the same trap, this post is for you.

Adafruit - this is not good! You should have two different product IDs if you consistently get 2 different pinouts from your manufacturer.

Just to be clear - you ordered two of these:
https://www.adafruit.com/product/2548
and they had different pinouts? Was the pinout diagram on the shell different also?

I didn't purchase two, but I can show that the pinout changed.

Here's the photo on the Adafruit web page:

Here is a photo of the one I received from Digikey, Digikey part number 1528-1982-ND, Adafruit part number 2548:

Note that pins 2 through 6 have all changed.

I tested it, and it works with the pinout shown on its case. (Pins used: 1 RST; 2 SWDIO; 4 GND; 6 SWCLK.)

So, the pinout has changed, but the pinout shown on the device has changed accordingly, and is correct. Users should take that into account when changing between multiple 2548 devices.
