TTL camera

by jdelcamp11 on Wed Dec 19, 2018 5:32 pm

I recently purchased a serial ttl jpeg camera (weatherproof version PID 613.
I am not able to get the camera to work.
I have tried the comm tool, the snapshot example, the NTSC output.
I have tried switching the RX/TX lines.
I have tried all the baud rates in the comm tool.
I have tried giving it it's own 5V power.
The IR leds glow slightly, but no output and not communication with the camera.

My other camera non-weatherproof version works perfectly in the same setup.
I would like to arrange for an exchange.

Can you post a photo of your setup showing how you have everything connected.

Were you trying to use this library?
https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit-VC ... ra-Library
and run the example?

Your library doesn't work as is with my due or feather MO. I have modified it to remove any reference to softserial. This works well with both my due and featherMO. The same with the sketch. I am using Serial3 on my Due and Serial1 on my feather. I am attaching both the modified library and sketch.
I know this works as I am using them with my other camera. I wanted to replace it with the waterproof version.
I also want to mention that the camera should still produce a composite video - but doesn't.
I will add the photo in a separate post.

photo of setup.
Note: the feather MO is a 3.3V so the voltage divider isn't required.

You're powering it from 3.3V in your photo. In your first post you mention giving it 5V - which is what it needs. The video out should be a good check. Were you powering it from 5V when you did the video check? What are you using for an actual display for testing the video output? Is it the same one that works with the other camera?

Yes, when I did the video out check I had it powered by 5V. Composite to my TV. Same tv, same composite cable, and same setup.
My other camera works perfectly in the setup as pictured. I just confirmed with my other camera that I also get composite when powered at 3.3V. The new camera, when powered by either 5v or 3.3v does not. I don't see the leds faintly glowing at 3.3v (expected).

The RCA connector is just out of view in your last photo. Can you post another one showing the solder job there. Where the brown and yellow cables go.

Thanks for the photos. For the analog video, should just be able to apply the 5V power and get it on the RCA jack. Finding something that can display NTSC is getting more and more difficult - but you've got something that works with your other camera. Not sure. Let's replace it.

Send an email to support@adafruit.com with a link to this thread and your order number and they can get you a replacement weatherproof camera PID 613.

No worries. That just means we don't need it returned. If your new camera works, then you're all set. Thanks for asking though.
