FT232H Breakout issues

by epalmer on Thu Jan 10, 2019 2:41 pm

I'm using the FT232H Breatout Board and have installed Python2.7.15, the FTDI driver, GPIO, and ftdi1 libraries as described in https://cdn-learn.adafruit.com/download ... 1547144515

When I run the gpio_test.py program, I get the following error.

C:\Python27>python gpio_test.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "gpio_test.py", line 9, in <module>
ft232h = FT232H.FT232H()
File "C:\Python27\Adafruit_GPIO\FT232H.py", line 150, in __init__
self._check(ftdi.usb_open, vid, pid)
File "C:\Python27\Adafruit_GPIO\FT232H.py", line 204, in _check
raise RuntimeError('ftdi_{0} failed with error {1}: {2}'.format(command.__name__, ret, ftdi.get_error_string(self._ctx)))
RuntimeError: ftdi_usb_open failed with error -4: usb_open() failed

C:\Python27>

Any suggestions are welcomed.

What version of Windows are you using? Does the FT232H show up in Device Manager?

File "gpio_test.py", line 9, in <module>
ft232h = FT232H.FT232H()

That line number looks off. You're running the code from here?
https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-ft2 ... akout/gpio
Do you have the line?
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
FT232H.use_FT232H()

Looking back at the drivers installs you mention. The link in your first post links to a PDF of the entire guide. There are several software components that need to be installed:
https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-ft2 ... psse-setup

You've installed all of those?
