Hallowing doesn't start / show as USB device

by grickey on Sat Jan 12, 2019 3:01 pm

My new Hallowing M0 Express (Part 3900 SID 2.2.2, Invoice 1923487, Dec 4) doesn't show up as a USB device when it is plugged in.

The CHG led flashes amber quickly. When switched on, the amber led maybe flashes at a barely perceptible slightly slower rate, but the Neopixel doesn't light up. Reset does nothing either. Tried to power with a Lipo battery with no results.

Tried three different PCs (Win 10, 8.1 and 7) and three different USB cables and none of them see any USB connection when it is plugged in.

Is there anything else to try?

You definitely want to make sure the little switch on the Hallowing is ON. Then try double pressing the reset button to see if you can get into bootloader mode and see the HALLOWBOOT folder:

Ok, I tried all combination of intervals switching on and hitting the reset button once and twice and as many times as I can, and still nothing seems to happen. It is not going into bootloader mode, and it also isn't going into any mode, as far as I can tell. Nothing changes by hitting reset. It does not show up as a device connected to the USB, let alone a drive.

Doesn't the board come with the spooky eye demo on it? I get nothing at all lighting up except the amber flickering. No neopixel, TFT, or USB drives or devices appearing.

It should come with the eye demo. But should also come with a bootloader. Post a photo of both sides of the board so we can see if it's anything obvious with the hardware.

Doesn't look like anything obviously popped or discolored. :(

Just to be clear, when you said "switched on", you were turning the little switch by the teeth on? It's off in your photos. And many people have overlooked it. It sounds like you've done that, just want to make sure.

Yes, correct. I have switched it on and off so many times. With reset pressed, without, with usb connected, without, tapping reset once, twice, like mad.

Nobody's home.

OK, thanks. Just wanted to make sure. That has happened a *lot*. Thanks for the photos and trying to trouble shoot.

Let's replace it. Send an email to support@adafruit.com with a link to this thread and your order number and they can send you a new Hallowing.

Ok, will do. Thanks for all your help!

Is there a way to return the old one?
