MPL3115A2 Breakout Sampling Interval

Post by redierking »

I'm using a MPL3115A2 with a Metro Mini to collect data for a rocket flight. Because of the rapid change in pressure/altitude after launch, I need a pretty high sampling rate. I'm trying to get a 100 millisecond (ms) interval. I'm also collecting other data, but it's analog. Only the MPL3115A2 is I2C. I'm using the MicroSD breakout board and no issues there.
When bench testing, the data is being collected and saved, but calling the pressure sensor reading is adding about 300 ms to the interval. For example, without the sensor, the sampling interval averages 101 ms. But, with the sensor, and collecting altitude (meters) and temperature, the sampling interval is 448 ms. Only collecting pressure (in pascals), this still adds over 300 ms to the data collection cycle.

So, is there another I2C pressure sensor that would be fast enough for a 100 ms samping rate? I only need the pressure because I can manipulate the data after the flight.

I would appreciate your advice on this.
