BB power supply regulates only one side?

by whiskey on Mon Mar 01, 2010 1:33 pm

I just noticed that my breadboard power supply will only regulate on one side.

The side with the power jack will only output "12" volts(more like 16 volts!) from the wall wart, this includes the center pins of the same side as well. I tried to touch up some solder joints but I'm still unsuccessful.

I was hoping someone can point me to the correct solder points to look for (perhaps I can run a multimeter on it?), not sure if it's in the pot, regulator, slide switch? my retouching of the solder seems to be creating a bigger mess than what it was. lol

In the meantime will this have any wear and tear to the side that's working?

thanks!

there is only one regulator, it regulates the "Vo"ut side, the "Vi"n side is what comes out of the DC jack

hmmm excuse me for not completely following you here,

the regulator only regulates the"Vo" side? and the other side ("Vi") will only supply what's coming out of the wallwart?

so this is normal?

If it is then would you suggest I cut the positive trace on the top of the "Vi" and solder a jumper wire from the positive from "Vo" to get both sides running the same? would this affect anything?

edit: ok having a read through the directions I guess it is normal. I'm wondering if it is still possible to cut the trace?

thanks!
