SIM reader - FTDI not working?

by donb on Wed Mar 24, 2010 10:23 am

Hello,
I purchased an FTDI TTL-232R-3V3 USB to TTL serial cable for use with the Xbee and SIM reader kits. When I use it on the SIM reader I am unable to send or receive data. However, the LED lights up correctly. I have used my multimeter to ensure that the pins on the FTDI connector have a true solder joint and have checked for bridged pins. So far there are no problems. What could I be missing?

Thanks,
D

probably you're not using the right driver and/or COM port?

I'm using the ftdi_sio driver that comes with the most recent Linux kernels. I'm using the same driver to access the Xbee, which is working well. I'm using the pySimReader application in userland with no success via FTDI. The COM port is correct (/dev/ttyUSBx). I've played around with the serial params and read through the pySimReader python code that sets up the serial device. The code seems to be fine, but I have no idea why the SIM reader isn't happy.
