JLink EDU setup for the Feather M4 Express

by BDL on Thu Jun 13, 2019 3:27 pm

Trying to set up my JLink for the first time. I want to debug some code that is dying with DMA. I can read the VTref=3.295V (once I got the cable figured out). This at least means the USB link is ok. If I type connect, and ?, I get a list of the target interfaces. I tried using "S" for SWD. Jlink then prompted me to specify the target interface speed. I used the default of 4000 kHz. The message I get is: The selected device "S" is unknown to this version of the J-Link software.
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE

Connecting to J-Link via USB...O.K.

The selected device "S" is unknown to this version of the J-Link software.

Please make sure that at least the core J-Link shall connect to, is selected.
Proper device selection is required to use the J-Link internal flash loaders
for flash download or unlimited flash breakpoints.

For some devices which require a special handling, selection of the correct device is important.
No valid device has been selected.

Does someone have a config file or list of options to get the JLink Mini EDU working with the Feather M4 Express? The documentation (at least for linux) is terrible. Looking through the device list, installed in /opt, I don't even see an ATSAMD51J19, nor a SAMD21, nor any variant that is close. Am I wasting my time?

Wandering through random parts of the Segger website I found that the supported device is called "Cortex-M4". So to start up one does,

J-Link>device Cortex-M4
J-Link>si SWD
J-Link>connect

Got the program to halt and to go. Slow progress! Has anyone used Ozone for the SAMD51? Or only gdb?
