SIM Reader Error

by sm4sh on Mon May 31, 2010 2:13 pm

Hi,
I've got a small error with the SIM reader, I just put the kit together and ran the pySimReader which returned this:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "pySimReader.py", line 267, in buttonConnectReader
File "pySIMserial.pyc", line 111, in connectReader
File "pySIMserial.pyc", line 160, in openSession
TypeError: ord() expected a character, but string of length 0 found

The com port is correct yet it doesn't get past this stage, could it may be a coding error in the files pySimReader.py and pySimSerial.pyc? I am using Vista, I don't have XP.
Can anyone let me know if they have any ideas what the problem might be?
thanks sm4sh

Hi,

I tested the cable and there is only continuity between the ground wires at both ends and the positives of the FTDI, none of the other wires seem to have any continuity, I got the cable with the kit, would it be possible to send a replacement if this is a faulty cable? I'm also going to try a DB9 if I can find one laying around, thanks!

+1 to checking you have the right COM: port. Furthermore, sometimes there is an error in the pySimReader.py file, it will have some wacky port address in there. I had a few issues, but got it working in the end. :) :) perhaps this will help: http://bit.ly/904XMt
Finally, some SIM cards just don't work in the reader.
