SimReader software problem

by kmcree on Tue Jul 13, 2010 3:01 pm

Downloaded the pySimReader-Serial-Win32-v2.zip file and unzipped it. Started the
pySimReader.exe file and nothing opened. Got error messages in the *.log file.

a. In reading the FAQ's and Forum messages, it appears that the Sim Reader card has to be
operational before the program will start properly. Not very user friendly, at all.
b. Got the board completed, SIM installed, powered up and connected to COM 1. Made sure
the MSVCP71.DLL and MSVCR71.dll files were in the pySimReader.exe directory and
started pySimReader.exe. The program failed to start and gave this error message:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "pySimReader.py", line 30, in <module>
File "zipextimporter.pyc", line 82, in load_module
File "wx\__init__.pyc", line 45, in <module>

File "zipextimporter.pyc", line 82, in load_module
File "wx\_core.pyc", line 4, in <module>

File "zipextimporter.pyc", line 98, in load_module
ImportError: MemoryLoadLibrary failed loading wx\_core_.pyd

c. I am a very experienced computer user since 1982 and a retired professional electronics
engineering technician. I tried two different computers using WinXP-Pro SP3 and WinXP-
Home SP3 with AMD Athlon 1800+ single core processors, 1.5 GB and 512 MB memory
respectively, with the same results. None of the files referred to were in the
pySimReader.exe directory and "wx\_core.pyc" is an illegal name in Windows. There is a
"wx._core.pyc" file there.

I then tried using the USB FTDI cable and, after a lot of driver installation hassle, got the
same results as with the serial cable. I then tried installing and using the
"pySimReader_v14_setup.exe" application and got no results at all as it did not seem to run
and I could find no error messages.

How can I get the SimReader to work? I want to back up the data from my prepaid USB disabled
Tracfone cell phone. Tracfone does not seem to have a USB enabled phone even though they have
phones with 99 and 999 directory entries plus notes and camera!

Board images: Don't know how to insert images.

What has SubDownloader have to do with SimReader? I didn't see any "fix" that seemed to be applicable.

search the page for for
"SubDownloader after start crashes!
If you see in the log something like "zipextimporter.pyo" or "ImportError: MemoryLoadLibrary failed loading wx\_core_.pyd" try download and put in same folder as is subdownloader this dll: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-f ... ml?msvcp71 - more about this problem is written in here "
or click here

we aren't related, but they solved the same problem :)

In my original post I said, "Made sure the MSVCP71.DLL and MSVCR71.dll files were in the pySimReader.exe directory...."
What about the files mentioned that are not in the directory and the illegal file name referred to?

I just tried it in a third computer like ones I built for my sisters and it works! This is also using WinXP-SP3, but with an Intel Celeron dual core E1400 processor and a different MB.

Oops! I lied. MSI K9VGM-V with an AMD Sempron LE-1100 processor (I think is a dual core). The Intel box was not empty and left over from another project. The two computers that didn't work had Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 MB's and the AMD Athlon single core processors. Don't have any idea why this should make a difference.

oops, didnt see the MSVCP71.DLL and MSVCR71.DLL in your post. they really made those DLLs hard to distinguish :)

don't think its the computer itself, but we will investigate whether we should repackage the .exe with a newer version of python
glad to hear you got it working tho!
