HDMI 7" 800x480 Display Backpack - With Touchscreen - Touchs

by Pmmoore2 on Sat Aug 08, 2020 5:45 pm

Hi I recently purchased HDMI 7" 800x480 Display Backpack - With Touchscreen: https://www.adafruit.com/product/2407

The display works. However, the touchscreen functionality does not. I've tried it with both my Rasp Pi 4 and a Windows 10 laptop. When I run the ARconfig tool provided by Microchip I get this error message: 2:35:34 PM Error: Could not change mode to Mouse. Verify the AR1100 is properly attached

Any attempt to change Communication mode, verify communications or use the ARconfig tool at all gives me an error message. I currently have the screen plugged into my laptop via HDMI and USB.

The red light on the bottom indicating touch does blink rapidly when I touch the screen. However, I can't interact with the screen.

Please assist. Thank you!

On the Pi, after plugging in the USB cable, run this command:
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
dmesg | tail -20

and post the output here.

That will hopefully contain some informative messages about what is happening on the Pi when the board is plugged in.

Thanks. Looks like maybe it's still in raw HID mode. So, going back to what you got here:
2:35:34 PM Error: Could not change mode to Mouse. Verify the AR1100 is properly attached

What happens if you try the "Verify Communication" button?

Hi! Below is what i got after clicking the Verify Communications button a few times. I also tried to switch to Mouse and Verify Communications again.
It's acting like it can't talk to the monitor at all. Monitor is hooked up to laptop via HDMI and USB. Monitor working, just no touch function.

Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE

ok open the Device Manager in windows. when you unplug/plug in the USB cable, does it 'refresh' and show an HID device appear/disappear

It does show up when I plug in the USB - but not under HID. It has it's own category as UPDD Device. Screenshot below.

I did install the UPDD driver_06_00_617 when I was first trying to sort out the problem myself, before contacting you.
