USB/DC/Solar LiPo Phone Charging Problems

by Illusion206 on Tue Aug 25, 2020 4:09 pm

I have the USB/DC/Solar lithium-ion polymer charger v2 with the PowerBoost 1000c. and a 3.7V 6000mAh lipoly. It has a 1Kohm resistor soldered in to supposedly boost the output to 1A. It works great charging an iPhone 8 but seems to have problems with an iPhone X. The phone continuously buzzes as if it is rapidly connecting and disconnecting to the power supply.
Normally, as with the iPhone 8, the phone should buzz once to alert the user it has begun charging, then stay silent until it is removed from power.

The PowerBoost 1000 basic would be a better charger for an iPhone X or iPad. They can draw much more current close to 2A. The basic model can charge continuous at 2A - 4A.

An iOS device which is constantly connecting / disconnecting power charging status is a sign that it is drawing too much current from the power supply. You will observe the same behavior with 1A or lesser USB battery batter packs and modern iPhones.
