LCD Backpack Query

by _phillip on Fri Jun 11, 2021 1:17 pm

I recently tried to use an Adafruit i2C/SPI LCD backpack #292 and ended up breaking the pot. I have another, but do not want to ruin this one as well.

How, exactly, are you supposed to adjust this tiny pot?

Thanks.

How, exactly, are you supposed to adjust this tiny pot?

Very gently :).

As you have discovered, these are quite delicate trim-pots. They designed to be compact and intended for only occasional tweaking to fine-tune a circuit. Once the contrast is adjusted on the LCD, you should not need further adjustments.

I typically use a small jeweler's screwdriver and a light touch. Test in both directions. It should rotate freely in at least one. If you feel increased resistance, you are probably at the end-stop. Forcing it beyond the stop will damage the pot.

Ok! Very gently is it then. :)

I think there is room for improvement with this backpack. However, I do have one left and would like to get my $$ out of it. I will try not to wreck it this time.

Perhaps I'll get lucky and not have to adjust it at all. Right!

Thanks for your advice.
