si7021 woes

Post by barry914_old »

I have several Adafruit si7021 breakouts, and none of them agree with each other or with an independent measurement of temperature or humidity. The temperature spread is 2 or 3 degrees F, except for one that is over 10 degrees F different than the others. The humidity readings are also all over the map, none closer than 5% or 6%. Neither the temperature readings nor the humidity readings are close to measurements made with mercury lab thermometers and dry/wet bulb humidity calculations. These sensors have been used in various projects over the years, but have mostly been sitting in my parts bin. None have been abused or damaged. Any ideas what's going on here?

It could have something to do with prior use. But also, 2 to 3 degrees F in temperature and 5% to 6% variance in relative humidity is well within possible sensor error. Something on the order of 10 degrees F though is more suspicious.
