Short circuit?

Post by flounder »

As I look at how the bypass capacitors are added to the motor in https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-motor-shield/faq, I noticed something odd. The capacitor between the two terminals is right up against the bearing at the rear of the motor. This makes it look like the two leads of the capacitor are shorted out by the metal of the motor, resulting in a dead short between the two motor leads. Please clarify.

You mean this picture? https://cdn-learn.adafruit.com/assets/a ... 1396799310

All the black bits are plastic. The only bit of visible metal is the end of the shaft in the middle.

Thank you. I thought the motor housing was metal.
