Powering AW9523 LED Driver

Post by Dfitterman »

I am thinking of chaining four AW9523 breakout boards to control a bunch of LEDs.
The duty cycle of LEDs is low enough that I don't expect all of the LEDs to be on at the same time, nonetheless
the total current could exceed the 3.3V regulator capability of a Feather.

I am also noticed that there is a concern in a forum posts about all of the AW9523 lines being turned on when
the board boots up. Is this really the way this board works?

To avoid a fried Feather, can a separate power supply be used for the Vin of these boards?
I'm assuming that the Feather and AW9523 grounds are connected.

Running a separate power supply for the AW9523 boards Vin sounds like a good solution. I guess you would have to sever the i2c connectors Vcc line from the Feather and tie in your power supply if you are using the stemma connectors.
