ESP32-S2 HMI DevKit - absolute garbage

Post by noofny »

I received an Espressif ESP32-S2 HMI DevKit (https://www.adafruit.com/product/5207). Wow, this thing looks like it was ran over by a truck, or assembled by a toddler. I understand this is a dev kit rather than a polished product, but the build quality on this kit is absolutely disgusting by any standards, even moreso considering the high price tag ($80 USD).

- The whole board is visibly warped/bent/twisted.
- Virtually all of the holes on the cheap plastic "case" do not line up with the sockets they attempt to expose.
- The screen does not stay in place at all, falls out whenever you touch the unit and it sinks and lifts in the corners, so each time you touch the screen it just falls inside the "case".
- The cheap plastic "case" is also visibly warped. I could make a better looking and functional case using paddle pop sticks and wood glue.
- It does not even work. No power, no lights, no sound, no display, no action, nothing.

I have tried several attempts with different (known working) power sources/cables but this thing does nothing. There are no visible signs of damage on the massive plastic container it shipped in (and everything else in this shipment was in perfect condition as well as the box itself). Looks perhaps to be DOA on top of the absolute garbage quality it is for the price. Here are some pics, the focum only allows to attach 3 files...

Can someone from support please guide me through next steps here?

Was the package broken? Can you post a picture of it?

I'll see if there is any problem with the manufacturer, hold on there.
