Cap1188 not working

Post by robtsuk »

I've got a CAP1188 to which I've soldered headers. When I connect it to 3v and ground I'd expect to be able to see the LEDs light up when I touch a wire attached to one of the C pins. I don't see that happening, though. What ought I try to diagnose it?

I figured it out; one has to run the initialization sequence on the sensor board before it starts echoing the touched wires to the LEDs.

One thing that surprised me this morning, though, was that when I testing by running the CircuitPython example on my Metro M4, the cap1188 needed to be hooked up to the 5v output on the M4 or it would cause the M4 to power fault.

Congratulations on getting things talking.

Do you want to post photos of your wiring and soldering? I realize it might work @ 5v, but you do not want to feed 5v back to your M4 pins.

Regardless of using i2c or SPI to communicate with your M4 <--> Cap1188 you need to using 3v3 or you could damage the M4 controller.
