Meditation Chanting Prayer Box
Hello! Does this circuit board have an resistor soldered on the board for the purpose of setting the timing of the playback, aka the pitch? I ask because knowing that would make it more desireable for circuit bending.

There are some hacks for circuit-bending these for pitch control.

Re: Meditation Chanting Prayer Box
I bought a couple of these for just this purpose. I am a total novice at circuit bending; but so far, I have NOT been able to “tickle” the clock in the same manner as the hacks posted in the details section.
The boards in the Adafruit Buddha boxes expose only a single resistor, which controls the LED brightness. The circuit is similar to the one used in the above hacks, but it is not identical. I plan to experiment a bit more this weekend.
If anyone has any tips, I am game to try them!

The circuit in the videos you are linking is *not* the same as the ones currently being packaged in the meditation boxes on sale. Heres an image of the current boards for reference.

Can you post a photo of the top side of the board?

Here is the topside—note I have already removed the one resistor.

Re: Meditation Chanting Prayer Box
I see. There are some different dates / version numbers on the PCBs.
Have you tried wiring in a trimpot to replace the fixed value resistor? It should be as simple as wiring each side of the trimpot to GND and Vcc on the circuit and using the center potentiometer output pin to the trace that had been used by the fixed value resistor.

I tried a few different pots in place of the resistor today. Unfortunately, this only affects the brightness of the LED.

Re: Meditation Chanting Prayer Box
It is possible this model does not have a clock resistor. Have you tried exploring the board with a wet finger as the video suggests to see if any pins trigger a pitch change?

Re: Meditation Chanting Prayer Box
I have indeed tried the wet finger approach with no luck. It looks like the boxes are oos right now, but if they come back in, it might be prudent to remove those links since the hacks are not applicable here.

Agreed. If the next round of boxes have the same PCB you have received I will request the links be removed.
