Adafruit 1335 Peltier Thermoelectric Cooler Module

Post by csmigin »

I purchased this off eBay and it was delivered January 7. I just tried it out the other day and it appears to be defective. It barely change the temperature around it. Also the resistance isn't accurate. I was hoping to get a replacement product as I spent around USD$33. Let me know what else you need. Thanks!

Please post a photo of your setup, and post details of the power supply.

Note that if the power supply polarity is chosen such that the hot side is not connected to a heat sink, the module can be destroyed quite quickly.

The power supply is 12v9Ah36w as can be seen in my photo; 25-26ohms of resistance on the cooling plate, and drawing just over one amp.

What is the voltage of that sealed lead acid battery under load?

The stated module resistance, applied voltage and current draw are inconsistent.

The module should have resistance of roughly 2 Ohms, as measured by a multimeter, and draw between 5 and 6 Amperes from a 12V source, which would also tend to burn out the inadequate clip leads shown in the photo.

Damage by a reversed connection, leading to overheating, could be consistent with the reported module resistance of 25-26 Ohms.

Nothing was ever hooked up backwards; the leads are plenty strong enough as they are rated for 18 amps as can be seen on this chart). It is a 16 AWG wire. Also I have done this setup before on an identical module and been successful.
