Defective UBEC

Post by willis936 »

UBEC DC/DC Step-Down (Buck) Converter - 5V @ 3A output

https://www.adafruit.com/product/1385

Adafruit order number 2842447-1402830870

Purchased on May 8, 2022.

I connected 12.3 V to the input of the UBEC with no load other than a multimeter. The UBEC immediately popped, got very hot, and had a swinging output up to 200 V.

Setting aside wasting a bunch of time this is an irresponsibly dangerous product to sell without QC and a total ripoff at $10.

Can you post a photo and indicate which side you connected the 12v input on?

As long as you connected the input on the correct side we can refund you for your purchase.

In lieu of any markings on the UBEC and difficulty finding useful information on the store page, I worked with the assumption that the filtering cap would be riding the output.

Afterwards I found this buried on the store page:
The IN side (provide 7V-12V) is the open wires and the out (supplies 5V) is the black 3 pin female connector.
Please label the input on the UBEC and more clearly label this information on the store page.
