USB SDR DOA

Post by jay0lee »

I purchased this software defined radio:
https://www.adafruit.com/product/1497

Order #2860664-0753861838

On June 6th. Unfortunately the unit was dead on arrival. I've tested on a few different known working Linux boxes and when the unit is plugged into the USB port nothing is logged to /var/log/messages and lsusb does not show the device. Plugging other USB devices such as a keyboard or thumb drive function properly so the USB port is not the problem.

The unit shows no physical damage as far as I can see. No LEDS light up on the device when it's plugged into USB but I'm not even certain there are any when the unit is functioning.

I appreciate any help that can be offered and really enjoy my other Adafruit products!

Jay,

Are you able to confirm that the USB cable is a data cable? Are you able to plugin other data devices or microcontrollers to confirm the cable is good? The devices you had mentioned only tested the USB port.

The SDR device is a dongle and plugs directly into the USB ports, no data cable is used.

Okay, sounds like we will be replacing this unit.

Just to confirm the USB port on your machine is a v2 port?
