Which USB Hub?

Post by monore »

Lets say that I am looking for a USB 2.0 hub that comes with four ports, if it comes with more than four ports that is fine but I will never used more than four. That said, I see two USB hubs on the Adafruit site:

1) USB 2.0 Powered Hub - 7 Ports with 5V 2A Power Supply (https://www.adafruit.com/product/961).
2) USB Mini Hub with Power Switch (https://www.adafruit.com/product/2998). Assume that I have my own good power supply to plug into the USB Mini Hub with Power Switch so I don't care that the hub does not come with a power supply.

My question is, what would be the better choice when it comes to quality? Are both equally good quality? Or is one better quality than the other?

Thanks.

I’ve used the #961 (USB 2.0 Powered Hub - 7 Ports with 5V 2A ) for years and have multiple of them when needed for different projects. They have never failed me and have allowed the highest compatibility when using different microcontrollers which can get finicky when trying to use USB-C devices. Stepping down to 2.x has been key for me.

I’ve used the #2998 (USB Mini Hub with Power Switch) with some smaller Pi projects, but often would end up switching back to the #961 which I’ve found to be the most robust / reliable hub.
