Adafruit Menta with Modern Device USB-BUB?

by burpees_NH on Wed Aug 22, 2012 8:46 am

I just assembled my Adafruit Menta.. nice. My goal now is to program it.

I already owned a USB BUB I, from Modern Device, so I skipped on the FTDI Friend.
The FTDI Friend and USB BUB look quite similar... but are they identical?

Specifically, do I need to order the BUB output in a certain way in order to program the Menta?

The FTDI Friend's ports are labeled: GRD, CTS, VCC, TX, RX, RTS - http://www.adafruit.com/products/284
The USB-BUB 1 ports are labeled: GND, 3.3v, 5v, TX, RX, DTR and on the other side there are also "RTS" and "CTS" - http://shop.moderndevice.com/products/usb-bub

QUESTIONS
1) can I just plug in the USB BUB (making do with just the RX TX)... meaning the BUB is plug and play for this purpose?
2) If I need to jumper the ports or make my own adapter cable, which ports?

Thanks very much!

We don't support the USB-BUB. I don't know anything about it. You should contact Modern Device or wherever you bought it and ask them if it is compatible with the FTDI Friend's pinout.
