IoT Printer: Broken Power Adapter and Thermal Printer [Motor]

by crhickerson on Mon Sep 17, 2012 9:19 pm

While building the IoT Printer Pack, I found that the power adapter and that thermal printer didn't work.

The problem with the power adapter was pretty easy to spot. Although the Arduino would run when powered by USB, neither the Arduino nor the printer would run when powered by the adapter. When I tested the adapter's output with a multimeter, I found that it wasn't producing anything. I have another 5V 2A power adapter with the right connector, so this wasn't a show stopper.

While debugging the printer, I encountered the same problem described in the thread "Thermal Printer Drive Motor Failure," the thermal printer's paper feed motor doesn't work. Just running the thermal printer test sketch or the printer's power-on test produces a single black line on the paper, but pulling the paper while running the tests produces recognizable but skewed marks.
