SPDT switch

by paulosophy on Tue Aug 18, 2015 11:45 am

Ok.... this is probably a super dumb question...

I'm trying to use an SPDT switch:
https://www.adafruit.com/product/805

I've got things wired so the left-most pin is going straight to ground, the right-most pin is going straight to 3.3V, and the middle pin has a 10K pull-down resistor from the pin input to ground, and then goes into pin #6. Photo (sorry about the bad quality):

When I move the switch to the "left-most" position, the board seems to go into bootloader mode:

Could someone give some insight as to what's happening?
I feel like it should be simple to use a switch like this, so I'm probably doing some ding dong thing wrong.

Does it work better if you remove the direct connection to ground from the left pin?
(leave the pulldown on the center pin)

Yes it does! Thanks a lot.

Like the way you all use it here:

Yes. I don't have one here, but I suspect that switch is "make-before-break" so it momentarily shorts the two end pins together as you switch it.
