FTDI Serial TTL-232 USB Cable

by sekramer10 on Sat Oct 01, 2016 2:36 am

Hello,

I got the FTDI Serial TTL-232 USB Cable and I was wondering can I use this to read serial print statement data from an ATtiny85 running SoftwareSerial and see the data on the serial monitor in the Arduino IDE or on PuTTY? I tried to read it with PuTTY but didn't get anything.

Thanks,
Stephen

How are you connecting the 85 to the cable?

Through short jumper wires. I tried connecting the data lines and ground only, and also tried to power the whole chip by connecting VCC as well. This is the first time I have used PuTTY but I think I have it set up right, do you know if there's anything specific I need to do there to use the cable?

Make sure you are connecting rx of the cable to tx of the chip and tx of the cable to rx of the chip. Could you post a picture of your setup?
