finally, after much frustration I believe I have found on my win7 machine an incompatibility between the usbtiny drivers and an Anker mini keyboard (KN 810 10a). Whenever this keyboards' dongle is plugged into a usb it somehow disables functionality of the usbtiny that i am using with a trinket.(bootloader will not start) does not find device in device manager..
work around is to not plug in the keyboard dongle then the trinket and arduino ide works fine. this has started due I believe to some windows update during the last months.
