Arduino starter packs - difference

Post by Newbis »

Hi,
I wonder if anyone here knows what the difference is between the various Arduino Starter packs.

For example, on this site, there is a "Starter Pack for Arduino (Includes Arduino Uno R3) - 1.0."

On Amazon, there's "SainSmart UNO R3 Starter Kit With 16 Basic Arduino Tutorial Projects for Beginner (1602 LCD included)" (http://www.amazon.com/SainSmart-Tutoria ... tarter+kit), and also "Getting Started with Arduino Kit" (http://www.amazon.com/Getting-Started-w ... tarter+kit).

Amazon also has "The Arduino Starter Kit (Official kit with 170 page Arduino Projects Book) & 4 LCD's." (http://www.amazon.com/Arduino-Starter-O ... tarter+kit)

This "official" starter kit is quite a bit more expensive than the others, and there are only a few left as I write. (This product is also on Arduiono's own site, but it says it's sold out.)

Obviously, with no information anywhere comparing all these different starter packs/kits for the Arduino, it's very confusing to know what to get.

I want to get started with Arduino to begin to protoype some ideas I have for new products. I don't care about any educational book but would want clear documentation, and the real components that aren't inferior "knock-offs." On the other hand, I don't see why I should pay for the "official" kit if the other ones are exactly the same thing but for a lower price.

Can anyone here help explain the difference between these myriads of different Arduino starter kits, why the "official" ones are so hard to find, and why the big price differences?
Thanks!

We have the 'official' ones in stock here:
http://www.adafruit.com/products/1078#Description

As well as our own starter packs
http://www.adafruit.com/products/68
http://www.adafruit.com/products/193

And the ARDX Experimentor's kit
http://www.adafruit.com/products/170

The product descriptions list the contents of each kit.

Our starter kits contain the essentials to get started with our on-line tutorials: http://learn.adafruit.com/search?q=arduino+lesson
The ARDX kit has a slightly more structured lesson plan with breadboard overlays to help build the circuits.
The offical Arduino kit has all the parts you need for 15 fun and colorful projects.
