7 segment LED w/backpack

Post by flyboy99 »

Ok... I've got to be overlooking something simple. I'm just trying to get the .56" 7-segment with LEDbackup (Part# 879) to work with my Arduino Uno. I have followed the steps in the tutorial here: https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-led ... t-backpack

Libraries were downloaded and no errors received when uploading firmware. I have inserted print statements to make sure code is being executed.

I can not get the display to light up at all. Am I correct that no jumpers are necessary with just one display? I've heard to make sure I'm using a "Charge" USB cable instead of a "Data" USB cable. Would this be my problem if the Uno is functioning? How can you tell the differences in cables?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Could you post large (less than 1meg,), clear, detailed pictures of both sides of your board showing any soldering you have done and the connections to it?

Here's the display soldered onto the backpack. Not sure if the detail is good enough to be helpful. Not very pretty but have checked for solder shorts. I don't have the plug to the header in the pic. I have verified that 5V is getting to the display and also checked continuity on the Clock and Data pins.

Please post some photos showing your connections to the Arduino.

What software are you using to communicate with the display?

The software is the example sketch (i.e. File?Examples?Adafruit_LEDBackpack?sevenseg)

Firmware is running as I see the "7 Segment Backpack Test" print line when viewing the Serial Monitor. Let me know if the pictures show what you want to see.

Thanks!

That all looks correct. Please contact [email protected] with a link to this thread and request a replacement kit.

Thank you! I am very impressed with the quick response and handling of this post. This is first order with Adafruit but not my last... you truly do put the customer first!
