HalloWing MO product ID 3900

Post by Suzanaz »

Hello,
I’d like to purchase the item HalloWing MO product ID 3900: https://www.adafruit.com/product/3900

-Is this item ready for use as it is - with the eye demo?
-Do I need to purchase a battery and charger in order to put it to use? If yes please suggest the items needed (if you could please send direct links so I can add them directly to the basket).
-Is it OK to ship batteries to the UK or will there be a problem?

Thanking you in advance
Suzana

I would suggest purchasing from Pimoroni https://shop.pimoroni.com an Adafruit distributor in the UK, they are closer and might get back to you quicker and you won't run into issues with battery shipments. If you spend £50 or more you also get free shipping.
UK shipping details:

Pimoroni will be getting the Hallowing very shortly, I would recommend signing up for notifications for it on their site. Just click on the product link below, type in your email address, and click the notify button to be notified via email as to when they get them in stock. I would recommend purchasing same day you get the notification that they are available, as they will go out of stock very quickly.

You will need a micro usb cable to program the hallowing. You do not NEED a battery but if you want your project to run without plugging it into the computer by said usb cable, then you will want at least a 500mah battery although I would recommend a 1200mah battery.
I am sorry I can't help you when it comes to what demo code is loaded onto the board when you purchase it. Its sad you have gone 4 days without any answer in that regard. I hope someoene at Adafruit or Pimoroni will get back to you soon.

Hallowing:

You need a usb cable that not only does power but does data, chances are you have one but to be safe perhaps get this:

If you want your project to be portable you will want a battery.

500mah battery will do just fine but I would suggest a 1200mah battery as its a better value. Any battery over 500mah in that list will work just its just more price and more capacity (and subsequently more charging time), but either will do fine, choose by selecting the radial buttons on the right hand side:

If you want to charge your Hallowing without having to plug it into the computer or using an old cell phone charger then I would suggest getting a decent power supply such as this one to charge your Hallowing on the go.

Yep. It comes with the eye demo pre-loaded. It's also available for download from here:

Depends on how you want to use it. You can power via the same USB cable you use for programming. But if you want to be standalone, then you'd want to use batteries. There's a built in charger for LiPo batteries.

Ugh. It's complex. Shipping made this video that tries to help:

Adafruit HalloWing M0 Express Smoking...I just received this device and plugged it into the a USB cable to start it up. The device immediately started smoking and became hot to the touch. I assume this device can be exchanged for one that does not smoke or become hot. How do I do that?

Just received two Hallowing MO Express 3900. One worked perfectly, but the other one has dead OLED. All I did was connect power via USB, but no other connections. How can I get a replacement?

Order 1910924 received on 12/3/2018 (today)
